Idyllic Technology Unveils 24x24 mm Chipless RFID Tag, Slashing Size by a Factor of 4

Despite the dramatic size reduction, the new tag retains full RF Barcode® functionality, it remains completely chipless and printable, and supports the same high-speed, high-reliability scanning as before. This advancement opens the door to tagging a wide array of smaller or delicate items that were previously impractical to tag individually, including fresh fruits and vegetables, apparel, and cosmetics, with tag costs measured at less than a penny per unit, a fraction of the cost of traditional microchip-based RFID tags.

Key features of the new 24×24 mm RF barcode tag include:

●      Ultra-Compact Form Factor: A mere 24×24 mm in size (~0.94×0.94 inches), the tag is only one-quarter the area of Idyllic’s prior chipless tag, allowing application on small or fragile items (e.g. individual produce, makeup containers).

●      Fully Chipless & Printable: Contains no silicon microchip – instead, identity is encoded via printed conductive patterns. Tags can be mass-produced with inkjet or roll-to-roll printing on paper or flexible labels, for seamless integration into packaging or stickers.

●      High-Speed Scannability: Compatible with Idyllic’s RF barcode readers that can scan up to 4,000 tags per second. This ensures the new mini tags can be read in bulk rapidly, keeping pace with high-volume retail and supply chain operations.

●      Reliable Performance: Retains robust, no-line-of-sight scanning and durability. The passive tag’s spectral signature is resilient to dirt or misalignment, delivering reliable reads even on exposed produce or curved surfaces.
